Joy Shannon 

Joy Shannon is a producer, writer and director best known for the award-winning docuseries After The LockDown: Black In LA. The series was directed by three Los Angeles based filmmakers, Joy, her nephew Jonathan Burnett and his father Charles Burnett.

Joy is also known for her award-winning supernatural thriller My Dead Selfie. She also directed the award-winning 3rd Generation Female Gangsta’, All That Jazzin’ and Uptown Angel (aka Rags To Reality). Joy’s animated shorts include She Flies Again, a feel-good about women rediscovering their dreams, Canna Sistaz (a short-short cannabis comedy) and a fan-cartoon in honor of Queen Sugar called Give Me Queen Sugar.

Joy’s music videos include Made By God and After The Lockdown.

Joy has a BFA from Howard University and an MA in film from The American University, both in Washington, DC. She served as a juror for the Corporation for Public Broadcast (CPB) and was a grant recipient from AFI and WETA. Joy resides in Los Angeles.
