Documentary about the Black Marines of Montford Point, starting in 1942

In 1942 President Franklin Roosevelt opened the Marine Corps. to African American men. “The Chosen Few” documents the little known story of the black man’s entry into the Corps. We meet four men from disparate backgrounds and different parts of the United States. Each individual trained at Montford Point, Camp Leguene, NC. Featured in the documentary are the Hon. David Dinkins (former Mayor of New York City, from Newark, NJ), Sergeant Robert Wilson (Harlem, NYC), Sergeant 1st Class Alexander Edwards (Jacksonville, FL) and Private Vincent Long, Sr. (Brooklyn, NY). The documentary starts with what life was for each man before he departed to boot camp. One desperately wanted to become a Marine but had to overcome hurdles before permission to enter was granted. Another man joined the Corps. to escape the streets of Harlem with its hazards. The third individual joined because he had a brother in the Marines and the fourth entered because he had one brother in the Army and another in the Navy.
