In 1969 at the age of 22, Robert A. Rothschild was drafted into the army and joined some 500,000 troops in Vietnam. In this short, the veteran remembers the night recon mission when he stepped on a land mine just south of the Vietnamese DMZ.
JOSHUA DYLAN MELLARS
Joshua Dylan Mellars is an award winning film director and producer.
His San Francisco/Northern California Emmy nominated film “Shakespeare in the Shadows” is currently airing on PBS television stations nationally.
The director’s previous work includes: “Stolen Youth: Political Prisoner of the Dictatorship,” filmed in Argentina, one man’s remembrance of his imprisonment during the Argentine “dirty war;” “Building a Better Society,” a social documentary chronicling the new American inequity; “The Land of Nod,” a lyrical reimagining of the Robert Louis Stevenson poem.
The filmmaker’s music documentary trilogy (“Play Like a Lion,” “Heaven’s Mirror,” “Tango Illusions”) has screened at a variety of venues throughout the world including the Asian Art Museum of San Francisco, the Indian Embassy to the US in collaboration with the Smithsonian, the Portuguese Embassy to the US, Oxford, Cambridge, and international film festivals from New York City to London, Los Angeles to Berlin, Miami to Vancouver.
Prior to embarking on his filmmaking career, Mellars was a journalist in South America where he filed reports for UPI, NPR and the BBC. He is a Brown University graduate.
